A week of yoga
A brief update about my travels this week to Santa Fe, NM.
Happy to inform that I’ll be keeping this short and sweet. I’m so tired today because I had such an amazing week. My sister flew in from Detroit to visit me in Los Angeles last weekend, and then hopped on a plane together to fly to Santa Fe, NM for a Citizen Yoga retreat.
It was an incredible experience. I love yoga and especially miss my studio I went to when I lived in Michigan, Citizen Yoga. It was so special to get the chance to feel a piece of home in such an unfamiliar location. Santa Fe is a beautiful place and sits at a higher elevation than I realized (~7199 ft above sea level). I definitely want to come back because we only scratched the surface of all the sites to see and explore this week. Santa Fe is an amazing and spiritual place filled with so much culture: art galleries, creative mindsets, peaceful people and intricate embellished hats I could never pull off. We went to downtown and shopped from local artists who were filled with life and had the most wonderful stories to share about their work. I bought a gold bookmark that has a list of symbols on it that are significant to the native culture. I’m excited to learn more about my beautiful bookmark. The history of this place was overwhelming for me to hear and learn about (and I’m definitely not an expert), and the people who live here are so kind and intentional: you can tell everything (an object, food, or even a spoken word) has a deeper meaning behind it, and I think that is just so cool. There is so much rich history that shaped Santa Fe into what it is today, and I still don’t have a deep understanding of it, but it is fascinating to know there is so much still for me to learn.
That was a big lesson I learned in yoga this week, too. I’ll never have all the answers and every day my body will feel, move and breathe in different ways. That is finally okay with me. I don’t have to do the same rigid routine everyday, g bless! The more I think about it the more I realize that it’s actually pretty cool we have this human body to live in. It is constantly evolving and changing and I don’t think we remind ourselves or each other of that enough. Sometimes, rest and sitting still is the best medicine.
This week was so special to me and it is a memory I will never forget. I am so glad I got to share it with my sister. I’m incredibly grateful to her for trusting me to go on this trip.
